Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development, Infrastructure, Trade, Industry and Regional Development has visited the Independent Commission for Mines and Minerals

The Board of the Independent Commission for Mines and Minerals had a meeting with the representatives of the Parliamentary Committee for Economic Development, Infrastructure, Trade, Industry and Regional Development. This Committee is a supervisor of the ICMM work. The Chairman of the ICMM Board, Musa Shabani, presented the achievements and challenges faced by ICMM staff during 2017. It was also emphasised that the mining sector is one of the main sectors for economic development of the country, but despite some of the continuous achievements, it has not yet been achieved that this sector to contribute to the desirable extent in the economic development of the country. The Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Group, Mrs. Sala Berisha Shala, told to the media that the purpose of this visit is to look closely the work and difficulties of the ICMM staff, as the ICMM prepares every year as well the annual report on the work carried out during a calendar year, this report is submitted to the Assembly. Mr. Shala also mentioned the supplement and amendment to the Law on Mines and Minerals which is under procedure and it is expected to be approved by the end of March. It was also discussed regarding the Areas of Special Interest which are 11 areas in total. It was said that it should be initiated the procedures for their release in order to attract any serious investor who is ready to conduct exploration or exploitation in these areas. The ICMM Board informed as well the Parliamentary Commission that is preparing an international conference between Kosovo and Albania regarding the promotion of mining resources in Kosovo. In the end of the meeting, Mr. Shala expressed that we will continue to cooperate in order to develop more the mining sector as it is one of the most important sectors in the economic development of the country.
